Notes:

My Skills:

I am an artist and educator and I have been inventing and building things since childhood. My education at McMaster University and Emily Carr University fostered my natural design abilities. I work with a wide variety of materials such as acrylics, advanced adhesives, compounds, fiberglass, metals, plaster, polymers, silicon, stone, rubber and wood. I have extensive experience in rapid prototyping and fabrication including casting, CNC routing, laser cutting, metal foundry, milling, mold-making, painting (booth and pen), printmaking, sculpture, welding and woodworking.

In addition, I am a skilled computer programmer and have personally built web 2.0 applications, software projects, hardware controller programs and graphical interfaces for over 40 projects. I have built applications using Arduino, ASP.Net, C/C++, CSS, Flash action script, HTML, Java script, PHP, Processing, SHTML, SQL, Visual Basic.Net and XML. I also use a broad range of design, web, audiovisual and other multimedia authoring software. I am a competent microelectronics user and I have worked with Arduino, Mini POV, CMU Cam and others. In fact, I have co-designed my own microcontroller as an expansion of the Arduino project called Displayduino (http://www.displayduino.com), adding network capabilities to the Arduino platform for the operation of over 4000 electronic components.

My Work Ethic:

I am a self-motivated academic and I function well - both independently and in collaborative environments. Through my professional experience in running my own multimedia firm (2003-2008), I have developed the self-direction and leadership skills necessary to take an idea from conception to completion, including planning, costing, building, testing, marketing (showcasing) and success-management. Through my graduate education, I have become a motivated researcher and educator. I am eager to study, present, teach and publish the findings of my research. I thrive in environments in which there is constant productive criticism from my advisors and peers. I build highly-polished finished products that work, impress and inspire dialogue and innovation.

My Experience:

My broad range of skills has earned me teaching assistantships and instructor positions at McMaster University and Emily Carr University of Art + Design - even while still attending both schools as a student. I have taught fine arts (sculpture), multimedia (website design) and currently teach creative electronics and interactive art practices.

In addition to my past academic profile, I have had extensive and relevant professional experience. From 2004 until 2008 I was the lead multimedia architect of M.R. Media an international multimedia consulting firm based out of Toronto. I personally developed more than 40 projects including web 2.0 applications, software, media relations consultation, electronic learning development and video and photo productions. My companies have now been consolidated under Trigger Shark Ltd. and the services we offer include everything from operations, logistics, sales coaching, marketing, content management, learning management, business modeling, technology research and acquisition, market research, usability research, brand forming and partnership/contract negotiations.

Other:

I have also kept up a healthy photography portfolio and I belong to numerous distribution networks selling my photos online.

In addition, I am very physically active - fitness training on average four times a week. I love to run, swim, row and I have really gotten into the new suspension and tension training programs that are becoming popular these days!
