The Neo-Futurist Tree of Knowledge (plaster 4' X 3' X .5' with steel rod inner skeleton, neon paint, ultraviolet lights, thread and wires - 2003)
The neo-futurist tree of knowledge was my reaction to traditionally theological tales surrounding the tree of knowledge. I give caution to its presence as a burning ember and hanging from its branches are hairs; long, white, and old. It slouches over short and threatening, yet decrepit and intriguing.
You can see in this detailed photograph on the left that the tree roots were made to look like hooves grounded firmly in place. The electrical snake leading up to the forbidden technological fruit is seen extending all the way to the floor. Below you can get an idea of the scale of the tree as well as the way it looked in the gallery space and as you can see it has a eerie yet sublime glow.
